Flyers Playoff Odds Explained: Points Pace, Models and Price

How a Flyers playoff number is built: the Metro third-place line, tiebreakers, a 100,000-run season simulation and a sportsbook price turned into a probability.

Flyers playoff odds are a probability, not a prediction: the share of simulated seasons in which Philadelphia finishes top three in the Metropolitan Division or takes a wild card. Models such as MoneyPuck get there by simulating the rest of the season 100,000 times, and a sportsbook's make-playoffs price can be turned into the same kind of percentage and compared against it.

The useful part is the method. Know the line the Flyers have to clear, how the model plays out their remaining schedule and how to read a bookmaker's price, and any number on a dashboard stops being a black box.

Flyers playoff odds today: what goes into the number

Any figure you see today is the output of a season simulation rerun after each result, so it moves with the standings and with the games left on the calendar. Three inputs carry it: the qualification format, the points the Flyers already have against their rivals, and a rating of each remaining game.

The format sets the line. Under the NHL's rules, the top three in each division take the first 12 playoff spots, and the wild cards go to the best remaining finishers in the conference regardless of division. That means one division can send five teams while the other sends three, so the Flyers are racing both the Metropolitan third-place team and the whole Eastern Conference wild-card pack.

Tiebreakers decide close finishes. As of October 2026, a points tie breaks first on fewer games played, meaning better points percentage, then on wins excluding overtime and shootouts. A Flyers team level on points but with a game in hand is ahead in any model that projects the standings forward.

Each game is rated, then simulated. MoneyPuck runs every remaining game through its pre-game model and, for games further out, regresses the scores toward the mean because the gap between teams is less certain the further ahead you look. In that pre-game model, goaltending carries 29% of the weight, so a change in the Flyers' starter can move their odds without a single game played.

InputWhat it does to the Flyers number

Current points and games playedStarting gap to the Metro third spot and the wild cards

Turning a sportsbook price into a probability

A make-playoffs market quotes a price on "yes" and "no". To compare it with a model, convert each side to an implied probability: for a minus price, divide the amount risked by the amount risked plus the profit; for a plus price, divide the stake by the stake plus the profit. The two sides add up to more than a full chance because the book builds in its margin, so scale them back down until they sum to one before you set them next to a model's figure. If the model and the de-margined price disagree, the gap is the thing to explain, usually a goalie, an injury or a schedule quirk the other side weights differently.

Flyers playoff chances 2026: what the late-season race showed

The 2026 run-in shows how fast a model price can move. On April 3, Stathletes gave Philadelphia a 27.7% chance on a 94.8-point projection, with the Flyers three points behind the Islanders for the No. 3 Metro seed.

NHL.com's April 13, 2026 notes had the Flyers third in the Metropolitan, ahead of Washington by one point and two clear of Columbus, with the Blue Jackets at 40-29-12, two points back. A win over Carolina would clinch the first berth since 2020, according to the same notes.

The wild-card race was its own track. Boston sat one point ahead of Ottawa for the first East wild card, which is why Metro and Atlantic results both fed the Flyers' number: lose the division spot and the fallback was a wild-card fight against teams from the other division.

The lesson for reading the price is that a sub-30% figure in early April was not a verdict.

Sabres playoff odds: reading a rival's number the same way

Buffalo's playoff odds are built with the identical method: the same 100,000-run simulation logic, the same division-plus-wild-card format and the same tiebreak order. Nothing about the model is team-specific except the inputs.

That makes the Sabres a useful cross-check when you read an Eastern Conference board. If a model rates Buffalo and Philadelphia as wild-card contenders at the same time, their two odds are linked: every simulated season that puts one in a wild-card spot leaves fewer for the other. When you convert a Sabres make-playoffs price to an implied probability, remove the margin first, then compare it with the model figure exactly as you would for the Flyers. A gap on one team without a matching gap on the other usually points to an input, such as a goaltender rating, that the book and the model treat differently.

Slate questions

Do the Flyers have any chance of making the playoffs?

Their chance is whatever share of simulated seasons ends with them in a top-three Metropolitan spot or a wild card. On April 3, 2026, Stathletes put that share at 27.7% with a 94.8-point projection, so a long shot in a model is still a live path.

Did the Flyers clinch a playoff spot?

In the April 13, 2026 notes, NHL.com said one more win over Carolina would clinch. Check the final standings for the result: a model's number turns into a clinch only when no simulated season leaves them out.

Are the Flyers in the 2026 playoffs?

The cited sources stop at April 13, 2026, when Philadelphia held third in the Metropolitan with one win needed to clinch. A team in a top-three division spot at the end of the season makes it, under the format in the NHL glossary.
